Criteria 1 and 2

Unit 60 – Interactive Media Authoring

C1 - Understanding principles of interactive media authoring

Interactive Media Authoring:

Interactive
Non-interactive

Television (change channels)

Sky+ (pause/ rewind/ fast forward)

Live Performance (encore/ getting on stage)

Radio (call in/ change station)

Mobile Phones (social networking/ video calls)

Games (Sandbox and Rail)
-          Using a controller you can manipulate the way in which you can play through each game dramatically, you’ll never be able to play the game in the exact same way as you did last time
-

Cinema (can’t change film/ can’t pause)

Interactive media is on occasion referred to as hybrid media activity. This is because it can combines different media products into one, for example:

Print

Web

Video

Audio

Virtual reality scene

PDF

Web link

Interactive media isn’t limited to just electronic or digital media. An example of printed media could be; gaming books, flip books, pop-up books, magazines (with quizzes, word cross etc.), board games.

Even books with a simple table of contents/ index page are considered interactive due to the ability to choose what page you want to read. You have a choice of what you want to read in a book rather than just passively going through each book from the very start to the very end.

C2 - Be able to devise an interactive media product

This interactive media is called Google; it is a search engine (actually the most popular search for many years among internet users).

The way in which you use Google is fairly simple and easy, all Google requires is that you type in certain keywords or phrases that it can use to filter down the search to find exactly what you want.

As well as a web and text search Google also allows you to utilize image, video, news, games, mail and map searches (using the different tabs to specify which).

Another key element to a Google web search is that the key words in each result with be in bold font.

Google Images; has many different filters that help specify which type of image you’re searching for, filters such as: colours, time uploaded, possible subject matter and the parameters or size of an image (ranging from large to small as well as options like larger than a specific parameters.

Google Maps; allows you to locate or pin point certain locations in the world (giving you an exact address)

The next interactive media is named Youtube, this is a online video database that allows users to search for all kinds of videos by typing keywords into the search bar. This website's purpose is for users to upload and share videos and so it has many options to make the experience easier for everyone.

Similar to Youtube, The Escapist is also a database however instead of just storing user videos this site tries to get the latest video game gossip out to its fans. Dealing with new info, rumours and content reveals, this site tries to keep users as up to date as possible.

Cracked.com is a website that shows interesting content to users, content is usually advertised by large images and text.
